Concerning the use of replaceable bone inserts for the hip, knee and ankle MITA workstations

1. DESIGNATION OF PRODUCT AND COMPANY

2. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION OF INGREDIENTS

Product classification : Two-component polyurethane compound

Single or mixture : MIXTURE

Chemical description : Diphenylmethane, Diisocyanate with Polyether-based polyol compound.

CROSS-LINKED : INERT – FINE DUST PARTICLES may cause irritation to eyes and skin in confined non-ventilated spaces.

3. FIRST- AID MEASURES

Contact with skin : Wash with soap and water.

Contact with eyes : Immediately flush the eyes with plenty of water and continue for at least 10 minutes.

Ingestion : Do not induce vomiting. Give one or two glasses of water. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Inhalation : Remove the patient to fresh air. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.

4. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Specific hazards: Hazardous combustion products may include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, oxides of nitrogen and other toxic gases.

Extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide, foam, or dry chemical powder. If water has to be used it must only be sprayed in large quantities.

Special fire fighting procedures: Fire fighters should be equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus and fully protected clothing.

Unusual fire and explosion hazard: None.

5. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precaution to be taken in handling and storing:

Handling : Ventilate workplace in such a way that the Occupational Exposure Limits (OEL) is not exceeded. Monitor concentrations in the air at regular intervals. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Storage : Store in a dry well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and other sources of heat or ignition.

Storage temperatures : -5 oC minimum, 35 oC maximum.

6. PERSONAL PROTECTION

Respiratory protection: use local exhaust ventilation where practicable, we recommend the use of a face mask in confined non ventilated areas.

Hand protection: latex free gloves when continuos sanding is required

Eye protection: Safety goggles when sanding or cutting.

Body protection: Standard issue overalls.

7. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Stability : Stable

Condition to avoid : Exposure to temperatures above 35OC.

8. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Carcinogenicity : Industrial experience in humans has not shown any links between exposure and cancer development.

Human effects : Skin and eye irritation when sanding.

9. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Mobility : floats in water.

Persistence/degradability : Not inherently biodegradable.

Bioaccumulation : Does not bioaccumulate.

10. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Adopt sound working practices, so that the product is not released into the environment.

11. TRANSPORT INFORMATION

Proper shipping name: Not classified as dangerous for conveyance by air, road, rail or sea.
